JA BUSINESS WEEK STUDENTS TO APPEAR IN SUNDAY'S DENVER POST
This Sunday, seven enterprising JA Business Week students will be featured prominently in the “Colorado Sunday” section of the Denver Post! These students will be showing off Black Kat, the Halloween-inspired Spoonbender flavor they concocted last June for Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard as part of their participation in the JA Business Week program. Business Week is JA’s annual week-long business and leadership program that gives students the opportunity to experience life in the real business world and learn from over 100 professional volunteers in an “Apprentice” –style environment.
Black Kat, a delicious blend of vanilla frozen custard with cappucinno syrup, hot fudge and Kit Kat bars mixed in, will be available in 45 Good Times locations throughout Colorado during the month of October. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the seven business-savvy students who created the delightful frozen treat, so visit your local Good Times and order a Black Kat Spoonbender today!
UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
JA has several schools with current volunteer opportunities. Can you help?
The first school is Rocky Heights Middle School, located at 11033 Monarch Boulevard in Littleton (near the DTC). We need a volunteer to teach the Economics of Success program there.
We are also seeking four bilingual volunteers to teach Kindergarten and 1st Grade in Spanish on November 9th at Beach Court Elementary School, located at 4950 Beach Court in Denver.
Additionally, we have multiple opportunities for volunteers in Boulder, Longmont and surrounding areas, including the Boulder Valley, St. Vrain and Adams 12 school districts.
We are also seeking volunteers in the south metro area, primarily for grades K-3, including the following schools:
• Bradford Primary School (1 White Oak Drive Littleton, CO 80127)
• Westridge Elementary (10785 West Alamo Place Littleton, CO 80127)
• Leawood Elementary (6155 West Leawood Drive Littleton, CO 80123)
• Mortensen Elementary (8006 South Iris Littleton, CO 80123)
Lastly, we are looking for a volunteer to run a five week after-school JA program this fall called “It’s My Business” for 4th and 5th grade students at Shaffer Elementary School, located at 7961 S. Sangre De Cristo Road, Littleton, CO 80127.
If you are able to help JA meet the volunteer need at any of these schools, please contact Laura Palmer at 303-260-6282 or lpalmer@jacolorado.org.
JA TO LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE
This fall, JA will unveil its new and improved website, which is sure to provide a wealth of information for all JA supporters - including Board members, volunteers, teachers, and students. The new site will feature a fresh design and new interactive functionality, including Discussion Forums and a JA Blog. The Discussion Forums will provide JA volunteers and teachers with an opportunity to exchange ideas, from best practices to teaching tips. For the first time, volunteers and teachers will have an easy and fun way to share information and stories about the classroom experience. Many thanks to the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation for their support of the JA Web site redesign project. Please look for the new site to go live in November at www.jacolorado.org.
