King Soopers Promotion To Benefit Junior Achievement
King Soopers selected Junior Achievement to receive funds raised through a special in-store promotion throughout the month of January. When you visit your local King Soopers store and check out at the register, you will have the option to either donate spare change or add to your bill to support Junior Achievement.
Proceeds raised through this collaboration with King Soopers will be used to implement innovative K-12 economic education programs in local schools. So visit King Soopers in January, give an extra dollar or two, and help support Junior Achievement today!
Volunteers Needed at Manual High School
JA has an immediate need for several volunteers at Manual High School, located at 28th Avenue and Williams Street in Denver. Manual High School made national headlines last year when several attempts to fix problems with low test scores and attendance failed, forcing the school to close its doors. All eyes were on Manual when it reopened in the fall of 2007 – this time with a new principal, a new ninth grade class, and a whole new set of very high expectations. Since then, Junior Achievement has been working on a partnership with Manual, where JA programs can help students prepare for work and life.
We are seeking a volunteer to teach JA Careers with a Purpose at Manual H.S. for 90 minutes per week for six consecutive weeks beginning the week of January 14th. The class time is 12:40pm – 2:00pm, and can take place on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. This program would be fun to teach as a team with one of your associates.
We are also seeking 1-2 volunteers to teach the JA Company Program at Manual H.S. for 90 minutes per week, for approximately 12-15 consecutive weeks, beginning at the end of February. The class time is also 12:40 – 2:00pm, and can be taught on either Tuesdays or Thursdays.
If you would like to help by volunteering at Manual, please contact Jenn Venerable at 303-260-6285 or JVenerable@jacolorado.org.

The 2008 Bowl-A-Thon event will take place on February 28th, 29th and March 1st at AMF & Brunswick Bowling Lanes throughout the metro Denver area. Junior Achievement Receives Grant From Pitney Bowes to Implement New Curriculum
Junior Achievement - Rocky Mountain Inc. has received a grant of $10,000 from the Pitney Bowes Literacy and Education Fund. The grant will support the implementation of JA America Works™, which teaches middle school students how business and entrepreneurship spurred the economic development of the United States during the 19th century. The specific learning objectives of the program include teaching students about different modes of communication and transportation used during the 19th century, and how industrialization led to increased productivity.
If you are interested in volunteering for this fun, history-based program, we are currently seeking volunteers to teach JA America Works™ in six classrooms at Sagewood Middle School, which is located off South Parker and Bayou Gulch Road in Parker. Additional volunteers are also needed to teach JA America Works™ throughout the metro Denver area. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Melissa Canaday at 303-628-7364 or MCanaday@jacolorado.org.
